Questions we’re often asked

What is the 48-hour weekly limit?

The law sets an average limit of 48 hours per week over a 17-week period. Employees can choose to opt out.

Can employees opt out?

Yes. The opt-out must be agreed individually, in writing, and employees can withdraw their consent at any time.

How much paid holiday do workers get?

Most workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid annual leave each year. This can include bank holidays if the employer decides to do so.

What rest breaks are required by law?

Employees should get at least a 20-minute break if working more than six hours, 11 hours’ daily rest and one full day off each week.

How should holiday pay be calculated?

It should reflect normal earnings, including regular overtime, commission or allowances. Basic pay alone is not always enough.

Euan Lawrence was fantastic; he was efficient, understanding, and very clear in his communication on points of law. He actively listened and gave brilliant professional advice. The administrative team that supported and worked with him was equally helpful and efficient.

The key thing for me was the empathy and emotional intelligence that Euan Lawrence demonstrated. He was patient, actively listened, and explained points of law to me in a simple yet not condescending manner. I was referred to him by another colleague who had gone through the same process.
