Jonathan Kay

Jonathan Kay is a Legal Director in our Real Estate team. He joined us in 2019 as an Associate, was promoted to Senior Associate in 2021 and became a Legal Director in 2025. He advises on a broad range of commercial property matters, with a particular focus on landlord and tenant work.

Jonathan acts for clients across the retail and commercial sectors, supporting both landlords and tenants with portfolio management, lease negotiations, assignments, surrenders and day-to-day asset strategy. He also advises on sales, purchases and general property matters, always providing clear and commercially-focused guidance.

Before joining Blacks, Jonathan qualified at a regional law firm in Leeds in 2012, then spent six years at an international firm gaining experience on complex and high-value transactions. He studied History and Politics at the University of Sheffield, later completing his legal studies at BPP Law School in Leeds, where he passed the LPC with distinction.
