Get a real feel for life in a law firm

We offer legal work experience placements from our Head Office in Leeds all year round, giving students the chance to experience life in a full-service law firm working with both businesses and individuals.

What to expect during your placement

Our week long placements give you a real feel for life at a busy, modern law firm. Whether you’re just starting to explore a legal career or already working towards qualification, it’s a chance to grow your confidence, pick up practical skills, and learn directly from experienced professionals.

You’ll get stuck into real legal work from the start. That means helping with research, joining client meetings, and getting to grips with live cases. You’ll meet people across the firm, hear their stories, and learn about the different routes into law. You’ll also be welcome at any events happening during your week. Most importantly, you’ll be treated like one of the team from day one.

How to apply

If you’d like to apply for the Scheme, please email your CV and a covering letter to our Work Experience Coordinators, Maariyah Shaukat and Zaiwara Mehran. Please make sure your letter includes all the information listed below.

  • Let us know whether you’re currently at school, college, university or in work and tell us a bit about what you’re doing.
  • Share the results from your most recent exams.
  • Tell us why you’d like to do your work experience placement with us.
  • Let us know what you think you’ll bring to the team during your time with us.
  • What achievement are you most proud of?
  • Tell us when you’re available for your placement.

All placements take place in our Leeds office. We get a high volume of applications and can only consider those that meet all of the above criteria.

*APPLICATIONS ARE FULL UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2026

A voice from within Blacks...
From my very first day of work experience at Blacks, colleagues took the time to involve me in meaningful matters and explain the ‘why’ behind the work. That inclusive, friendly, hands-on culture convinced me that Blacks was where I wanted to build my legal career.
