Nigel Hoyle qualified in 1982 and joined Blacks Solicitors in 2012 where he is currently a Partner and Head of the Corporate & Commercial team.

Nigel primarily acts for Owner Managed Businesses (OMBs) on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions and aims to help solve, rather than simply identify, problems for clients.

He consistently brings his wealth of experience to play in dealing with corporate acquisitions and disposals, restructuring, funding, and shareholder arrangements, as well as business to business matters for privately owned organisations.

Nigel is particularly experienced advising clients in the Food and Drink Manufacturing sector and Insurance Brokers, and is recognised by The Legal 500 for being “an excellent, pragmatic and commercial individual who is talented at finding solutions”.

Dave Paterson joined Blacks Solicitors in 2004, where he trained and qualified, and is now a Partner in the Corporate & Commercial team.

Dave regularly drafts and advises on lending and finance documents and has vast experience at dealing with all types of corporate matters for Owner Managed Businesses (OMBs) including acquisitions, disposals, and restructuring. He has acted on several management buyouts (MBOs) in the last 12 months and has been lead advisor on several multi million pound transactions acting for both Buyers and Sellers, including a Share Sale valued at £64m and a Share Purchase at £51m.

Dave has built a strong reputation advising Family Owned Companies (FOCs) on succession planning and issues. He recently advised one high profile Yorkshire based FOC on complex succession issues which involved extracting shareholdings which were held in Trusts.

He also regularly drafts and advises clients on commercial agreements. Recent particularly commercial work included: advising an IT service provider on a £10m+ maintenance agreement; advising a client on its “shirt front” sponsorship agreement with a Premier League Football Club; and drafting a Software Licence and Support and Maintenance Agreement for a local PLC.

Dave is also recognised by The Legal 500 for his “breadth of corporate knowledge” and for being “to the point, avoiding excessive fluff”.

Chris Allen qualified as a Solicitor in 1993 and joined Blacks Solicitors in 1994, where he has held the position of Managing Partner since 2008.

He specialises in advising on the drafting and negotiation of Settlement Agreements, drafting contracts of employment, and conducting Employment Tribunal proceedings.

Chris is recognised by The Legal 500 for “leading by example” and for being “friendly and reasonable”. He has also been flagged by Chambers & Partners as “an absolutely first class communicator, whether that is with his clients or with the community more widely.”

He is also a member of the firm’s Sports Law team which acts on behalf of a number of sports clubs, associations, manufacturers and retailers. The Team is recommended by The Legal 500 for providing “a very high level of service.” Chris is noted as a Leading Individual in this area of law and is described as a “consummate professional and a concise lawyer with a fine eye for detail.”

Richard Buono qualified as a Solicitor in 2001 and joined Blacks Solicitors in 2006, where he is currently a Partner in the Corporate & Commercial team.

Richard regularly deals with corporate acquisitions, disposals, restructures, and the preparation of shareholders’ agreements and general commercial documents for Owner Managed Businesses (OMBs).

Examples of Richard’s work include: acting for the owners of a construction company in the sale of their business to a PLC for £9m; handling a £7.1m management buyout; acting in the purchase of a hotel for £5m; and dealing with the sale of shares in a renewable energy business for £3.75m.

In addition, Richard is Head of Blacks’ specialist Healthcare team where he acts for a large number of GP practices, advising them on partnership matters, joint ventures and other collaborative arrangements. He also acts for dentists and pharmacists, particularly in respect of business acquisitions and disposals.

Saby Sambhi qualified as a Solicitor in 2012 and joined Blacks Solicitors in 2014, where he is currently an Associate Solicitor in the Corporate & Commercial team.

Prior to Blacks, Saby trained at a niche corporate and litigation City firm, before moving in house at a national education and training provider.

Saby has experience in all areas of corporate and commercial work, including acquisitions, disposals, restructuring, and shareholders’ agreements.

Whilst Saby acts for a range of clients operating across various industries, he has extensive experience in the Holiday & Home Parks and Telecommunications sectors.

Lewis Goodwin is an Associate Solicitor in the Corporate & Commercial team. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2005 and joined Blacks in 2017.

Lewis specialises in corporate and commercial work and has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investment, banking, shareholders’ and partnership agreements, agency and distribution, employee share schemes, franchising, and sports law. He acts for clients from a wide range of sectors including leisure, digital media, logistics, industrial asset management, entertainment sport and media, and charities.

Recent experience includes a joint venture relating to the development and commercialisation of fire and incident management technology, a multi-million pound refinance and development facility for an award winning regional hotel, and the sponsorship of a national football stadium and the kit of an international football team. Lewis has also acted as lead adviser on a number of matters for the Premier League and the Premier League Charitable Fund.

Lewis is recognised by the Legal 500 for his “excellent appetite for work and attention to detail”.

Alex Hall joined Blacks Solicitors in 2011, transferring to the Corporate & Commercial team as a Paralegal in 2013, before qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2017.

Alex has a primary focus on corporate work, predominantly advising in relation to business/company acquisitions and disposals, shareholders’ agreements, management buyouts (MBOs), group restructures, and share options.

In addition to her corporate work, Alex has gained experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of commercial agreements.

David Ward is an Associate Solicitor in the Employment and Commercial teams. He trained with Blacks Solicitors from 2011 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2013.

He acts for both individuals and companies, providing clients with clear and practical legal advice and excellent client care.

He specialises in running Employment Tribunal litigation, negotiating complex and contentious settlement agreements and advising upon all aspects of employment law disputes. David has a particular interest in the education and military sectors which are niche areas of employment law.

David also undertakes commercial advice, especially relating to the automotive industry.

David is recognised by the Legal 500 for his “ability to explain the legal process in simple terms”.

Pete Konieczko Hansom qualified as a Solicitor in 2008 and joined Blacks Solicitors in 2016, where he became an Associate Solicitor in the Corporate & Commercial team in 2018.

Prior to Blacks, Pete trained at a large national firm in Hull and gained experience in a variety of legal areas including commercial litigation, employment and intellectual property.

Pete acts for a range of clients from new business start-ups to large international companies. He specialises in all types of corporate and commercial matters including asset/share purchases/sales, management buy outs (MBOs), share buy backs, commercial contracts (including franchise agreements), supply agreements, and shareholder agreements.

In addition, Pete also advises clients on intellectual property matters including the registration of trademarks and design rights, and how to best protect and commercially exploit a company’s intellectual property portfolio.
