Nick joined Blacks in 2002 from an internationally recognised ‘Leeds Big Six’ firm, and is known for bringing a pragmatic and personal touch to working with clients. Since taking his position as a Partner at Blacks, the Commercial Property team has more than quadrupled in size.
He advises property investors, developers and occupiers as well as funders on acquiring, developing, selling, letting and charging property. He has built up strong relationships with some of the key regional property professionals and is a well-known and respected name in the Leeds legal market for practical, commercial legal advice.
In particular, Nick has developed a niche in the Holiday & Home Parks market, where he has been able to develop strong relationships with experts and operators in the field making Blacks a nationally recognised and reputable name, and the leading firm in the North.
Nick is recognised by the Legal 500 as being "always reliable" and is motivated by helping people be they clients, key advisers or colleagues and enjoys making things happen.
Nigel Hoyle qualified in 1982 and joined Blacks Solicitors in 2012 where he is currently a Partner and Head of the Corporate & Commercial team.
Nigel primarily acts for Owner Managed Businesses (OMBs) on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions and aims to help solve, rather than simply identify, problems for clients.
He consistently brings his wealth of experience to play in dealing with corporate acquisitions and disposals, restructuring, funding, and shareholder arrangements, as well as business to business matters for privately owned organisations.
Nigel is particularly experienced advising clients in the Food and Drink Manufacturing sector and Insurance Brokers, and is recognised by The Legal 500 for being “an excellent, pragmatic and commercial individual who is talented at finding solutions”.
Tom Moyes qualified at Blacks Solicitors in 2009. He became a Partner in 2015 and currently works in the Employment team.
He provides his clients with clear and practical legal advice in respect of employment law issues and acts for both individuals and companies.
Tom specialises in: disciplinary and grievance procedures; discrimination; preparation of contracts of employment; directors’ service agreements; employment policies; Settlement Agreements; restructuring and redundancy; and exit strategies.
He also specialises in Tribunal litigation and has been described by his clients as “clearly a very talented solicitor” and “nothing short of brilliant”.
Tom is also recognised by The Legal 500 as being a “star lawyer”, “razor sharp”, and for his “communication skills and legal knowledge”, with him being “able to communicate on both a lawyer level and personal level extremely well”.
Beth Laidler joined Blacks Solicitors in 2009 where she trained and then qualified in 2011. She became a Partner in 2018 and works in the Commercial Property team.
Beth has an organised and methodical approach to her work for clients who consist of a range of Commercial Property Investors and Developers, and Holiday and Home Park Owners/Operators.
She specialises in commercial sales and purchases, landlord and tenant matters, and the sale and purchase of holiday and home park sites up and down the country.
In March 2018 Beth closed on a three year transaction where she led a team to the successful completion of a £10m investment sale for one of the firm’s longstanding developer clients.
Aimee Hutchinson graduated from the University of Sheffield before joining Blacks Solicitors in 2010 as a Trainee Solicitor. Aimee qualified in September 2012 and has been an Associate Solicitor in the Commercial Dispute Resolution team for over five years.
She works on a wide variety of general commercial litigation matters, with a particular interest and specialism in Judicial Review matters. She often handles complex litigation in the High Court and has experience of working on cases in the Court of Appeal.
Aimee is a key member of the Holiday & Home Parks team and is rapidly becoming a ‘go to’ adviser in the sector for park owners. She has represented clients in the First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and is able to offer tailored advice to clients in this unique area of law.
Aimee is recognised by The Legal 500 as “highly knowledgeable”, “extremely approachable and has an air of confidence that puts the client at ease”.
Tristan Milner joined Blacks Solicitors in 2015, where he became an Associate Solicitor in the Commercial Property team in 2018.
Prior to joining Blacks, Tristan qualified as a Solicitor in 2011 having trained at a ‘Silver Circle’ firm in the City of London.
He acts for clients on a variety of commercial property matters including: landlord and tenant work; acquisitions and disposals; re/financing; and development work.
Tristan also advises clients who operate in a range of specialist sectors including Industrial, Retail, Offices, Leisure & Hospitality (including Holiday & Home Parks, Licensed Premises, and Hotels), and Mining.
David Ward is an Associate Solicitor in the Employment and Commercial teams. He trained with Blacks Solicitors from 2011 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2013.
He acts for both individuals and companies, providing clients with clear and practical legal advice and excellent client care.
He specialises in running Employment Tribunal litigation, negotiating complex and contentious settlement agreements and advising upon all aspects of employment law disputes. David has a particular interest in the education and military sectors which are niche areas of employment law.
David also undertakes commercial advice, especially relating to the automotive industry.
David is recognised by the Legal 500 for his “ability to explain the legal process in simple terms”.
